Cost Of A 6.2kva (6kva) Hybrid Inverter. What It Can Carry, How Long It Will Last. Other Details.
With the introduction of the solar hybrid transformerless inverters, the 6.2kva or 6kva hybrid inverter, which usually comes in variants of 5kva, 5.5kva, 6kva, and 6.2kva, has become one of the most popular sizes of inverter in this segment. They usually come in 48V systems, though some rare 24V systems can be found.
The 6.2kva (6kva) inverter has mostly replaced the traditional transformer-based 3.5kva, 4kva, and 5kva inverters, and are usually hybrid transformerless. For the differences between a transformerless hybrid inverter and a transformer-based inverter, please check our guide or watch on YouTube.
The 6.2kVA solar hybrid inverter size is available in most brands and has very similar features aside from the built-in MPPT solar charge controller, which ranges from 80A to 120A.

How Much Does a 6.2kva (6kva) Hybrid Inverter Cost?
Generally, the cost of a 6.2kva or 6kva solar hybrid transformerless inverter currently ranges from ₦450,000 to ₦600,000 ($330 to $435). This price range is similar among various brands. Although prices might go below or beyond this range, it often reflects the inverter model's unique features, such as wifi connectivity, parallel function, ability to work without a battery, dual AC output for load, dual solar input (MPPT trackers), etc.
The effect of China stopping value added tax (VAT) export rebates for solar products also saw the price of inverters rising globally.
What Can a 6.2kva (6kva) Hybrid Inverter Carry?
Most 6.2kva and 6kva hybrid transformerless inverters provide a rated output of 5,500w to a complete load output of 6,200w (6.2kva). Although it is recommended that when sizing an inverter, you do not go beyond a continuous load output of 70% to 80%. The best inverter sizing is that which carries a continuous load that does not go beyond 50%.
In calculating the load that the inverter can carry, you must take note of the various appliances that will be connected to it, such as lighting, cooling/heating systems, fridge/freezers, TVs, etc, together with their number and respective energy consumption, often rated in watts.
Take note of the surge power for some appliances that can draw 2x or 3x of their rated consumption when it is first turned on. These appliances usually include cooling ACs, fridge, freezer, etc, as well as televisions too.
But do not fret, a 6.2kva/6kva transformerless hybrid inverter provides a surge power of 12,400w for about 5 seconds to safely start up these appliances.
Now, sum the figures up to the 50%-70% of the rated output of the inverter. So, for a 6.2kva inverter with a rated output of 5,500w or 6,200w, the inverter can carry a continuous load of 3,850w or 4,200w, respectively. That is an average load of 4,000W.
That means the 6.2kva inverter can carry configurable numbers of inverter AC (1hp, 1.5hp or 2hp), fridge, freezer, water pump, television and music set, water dispenser, etc, up to a total of 4,000w.
We have conveniently designed a load calculator to help you know your correct inverter size and total solar size too.
How Long Will a 6.2kva (6kva) Inverter Last
This is a very misconstrued question. What determines how long an inverter will provide output is the battery, in the absence of solar panels or mains/grid/NEPA availability.
The size, quality, and state of charge of the battery, together with the running loads, are what determine how long the inverter will last, and that will be covered in another topic.
Just like any other inverter, the 6.2kVA solar hybrid transformerless inverter also consumes some power to keep itself running. However, it is very small at around 10w to 25w in standby mode and 35w to 65w while in operation, while its transformer-based counterpart draws about 100w during operation.
When asking about how long the 6.2kva/6kva solar hybrid transformerless inverter will last in terms of lifetime usage or how many years it will last, that question is then about the strength and durability of the inverter itself.
Most quality 6.2kva and 6kva hybrid transformerless inverters, with the correct load sizing, protections (breakers, voltage, and surge protectors), and care (preventing overheating, moisture, etc), will reach and surpass 10 years of usage, with premium brands exceeding that.
